Position Summary:
UAS Student Housing is hiring Guest Service Assistants (GSAs) for the Summer 2024 academic semester to provide support for UAS Summer Residents and Conference Housing Guests.
GSAs will work in conjunction with Cleaning Crew members and Residence Life Professional Staff to complete tasks and basic office administration duties, and provide customer service.
The GSA position is a live-in paraprofessional staff member that serves as a positive leader and peer role model within the Housing and greater campus community.
This position is expected to be placed within the main housing complex.
Being a GSA is a great way to improve your marketable skills for future employment, such as those pertaining to public speaking, customer service, conflict mediation, critical thinking and problem-solving, time management, and administrative ability.
This position’s benefits include summer housing provided at no cost and 40 hours per week for administrative tasks.
A successful candidate will encompass the following critical skills: • Demonstrate leadership potential and or previous leadership experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (both verbally and written) with a diverse population • Ability to work through conflict mediation and confrontation.
• Ability to understand work to be done, organize that work and complete work in a timely manner.
• Ability to analyze information, problem solve and use sound judgment in decision making.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
• Ability to work a required 40 hours per week in a customer service and administrative role at Housing desk locations, compensated hourly.
• Ability to serve on an on-duty rotation a minimum of 1 night per week starting at 5:00pm and ending at 8:00am as well as all-day weekend hours on a rotating basis, compensated by the Housing Credit.
• Organizational skills • Ability to attend occasional staff meetings.

• Able to lift and carry 15 pounds.

• Able to walk campus rounds consisting of flat grounds, sloped grounds, and flights of stairs for approximately 30 minutes.
• A commitment of one full Summer Semester (or the remainder of such at the time of hire) Minimum Qualifications: • Applicants must have a cumulative and semester grade point average of 2.
0 or above at the time of application and start date.
If a successful candidate enters the position with a cumulative or semester grade point average below 2.
0, the GSA will be placed on Residence Life Academic Probation.
The GSA will have one semester to raise their cumulative and semester grade point average to 2.
0 or above in order to remain employed in the GSA role.
• Graduate Teaching Assistants are not eligible for GSA positions due to time commitments.
• Applicants must complete all UAS employee Required Training (including Safety training, Title IX, Protection of minors, Campus Security Authority, and FERPA) within two weeks of their hire date.
• At the time of hire, applicants must have applied for housing through the Department of Residence Life.
Preference is given to applicants with a minimum of two semesters of community living experience prior to their term of employment.
Preference will also be given to applicants who have the ability to travel between Main Housing Complex and John Pugh Hall within a 5-10 minute response time.
Preference is given to candidates who have an unrestricted drivers license and meet the UA safe driver criteria.
Position Details: This position is located on the UAS campus in Juneau.
This is a full-time, non-exempt Student Assistant 2 position, starting wage $14.
38/hr with a $3,050 housing credit.
